PCA Webinar - 1

PCA Webinar - 1

26 February 2024

On February 26th, 2024, PCA hosted in very first webinar I our new monthly webinar series.

In this historic first webinar we had the pleasure of having Professor Melinda Hodkiewicz from the The University of Western Australia to present her learnings about how ontologies enable industrial change.

Professor Hodkiewicz showed us how Industrial Data Ontology enables the development of common digital data models and a higher degree of "frictionless information sharing". IDO supports artificial intelligence based on logic, which is important for quality assurance of large complex data sets and automatic verification and validation. Unlike many data models being described, IDO exists as an available and documented digital resource and is being used by an increasing number of global organizations to improve data quality and streamline existing engineering design and procurement processes.

2023 was a transformative year for work on the Industrial Data Ontology as 12 countries voted to support a pathway to standardization under ISO TC 184 SC4. This talk will provide an overview of developments to date and ask “what can the PCA do to support growing interest in its community”. The intended audience are engineering managers, design engineers and product suppliers, and enterprise architects.

In a closing, Pål Rylandsholm from DNV and PCA gave a short update on the ongoing development and standardization project for ISO 23726-3 Industrial Data Ontology, which is managed by PCA.
