Definition
An <ALFVEN NUMBER> is a <RATIO> of a <SPEED> of the Alfvén wave to the <SPEED> of the fluid at a point in the fluid where Al = v/(B/(rho.mu)^(1/2)) = v/v_A where v is <SPEED>, B is <MAGNETIC FLUX DENSITY>, rho is <MASS DENSITY>, mu is magnetic permeability and v_A is Alfven <SPEED>: B/(rho.mu)^(1/2)
