An <ALKALINE EARTH> is a <METALLOID ELEMENT> that has the ollowing properties: two electrons in the outer shell and a full outer electron shell, low electron affinity, low electronegativity, relatively low density, relatively low melting point and boiling point, malleable and ductile, relatively soft and strong, readily form divalent cations, very reactive (although less so than the alkali metals), not found free in nature but do occur naturally, react with halogens to form halides
