Definition
A <COMPUTER SOFTWARE PORT> is a <PORT> that serves as an endpoint in an operating system for many types of communication. It is not a hardware device, but a logical construct that identifies a service or process. It is always associated with an IP address of a host and the protocol type of the communication, and thus completes the destination or origination address of a communications session.
