Definition
A <FIELD-EFFECT TRANSISTOR> is a <UNIPOLAR TRANSISTOR> in which the majority carriers flow along a channel whose effective resistance is controlled by a transverse electric field produced by a reverse bias applied to a gate region surrounding the channel, the gate and the channel being of opposite conductivity types.
